Summary: BookDock is an offline-first audiobook player for Android. BookDock does not collect, transmit, rent, or sell any personal data, analytics, or usage telemetry.

1. Overview

BookDock is a Personal DRM-Free Audiobook Player and Self-Hosted Media Client for Android. Your privacy is fundamental: we do not operate any backend analytics servers, user accounts, or tracking infrastructure.

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All information created while using BookDock is stored strictly on your device (and, if you choose, backed up to your own local storage folder as progress_backup.json):

Audiobook Metadata & Playback Progress: Listening positions, chapter progress, bookmarks, bookmark notes, listening session history, per-book playback speed preferences, and listening statistics.
Optional Self-Hosted Server Credentials: If you choose to connect BookDock to your own self-hosted Audiobookshelf server, your server URL and authentication token are stored locally in Android SharedPreferences on your device and are used solely to communicate directly with the server URL you configured.

3. Permissions Used

Audio & Storage Access (READ_MEDIA_AUDIO / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Used exclusively to scan and play DRM-free audiobook files stored on your device or removable SD/USB-OTG storage.
Foreground Media Playback (FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK): Used to keep your audiobook playing when you switch apps or turn off your screen, and to display playback controls on your lock screen, notification shade, Bluetooth headsets, and Android Auto.
Network Access (INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): Used only when you explicitly connect to a self-hosted Audiobookshelf server to browse, stream, or sync your audiobooks, or when verifying an optional Google Play Billing Pro Theme Pack unlock.

4. Third-Party Services, Analytics & In-App Purchases

BookDock contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising networks, and no crash-reporting trackers.

If you choose to purchase the optional one-time Pro Theme Pack, the transaction is processed directly by Google Play Billing and is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. BookDock never receives or stores your payment card or financial details.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can clear your library cache, reset book progress, disconnect your self-hosted server, or uninstall the application at any time to permanently remove all locally stored app data.

6. Changes to This Policy

If this Privacy Policy is updated in future versions of BookDock, the revised policy will be posted at https://bookdock.me/privacy with an updated effective date.
